How to Make Your Tween Son Feel Special

While tween boys may seem secure and even quite cool, they need to be made to feel special. It is up to the parents to do this so they don't end up looking for significance in gangs and with the wrong friends. Here are some tips to make your tween son feel special.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Leave him notes. Don't leave your tween son notes that his buddies are going to stumble upon, but do leave little notes that say "thinking about you." Tween boys may not like public displays of affection, but they love to know that you care about them.
Step2
Play with him. Tween boys still like to play and they want you to play with them. This may mean shooting hoops, tossing a softball, or getting creamed by them in a video game match. Let them know that you are not above having fun and then you find them fun to play with.
Step3
Give him age appropriate responsibilities. Giving a tween small responsibilities lets him know that you trust him. Showing trust in him will certainly make him feel special.
Step4
Do guy stuff with him. This tip is especially for fathers, or if one is not present, for uncles and grandparents. Young guys like to do Guy Stuff with guys. Take your son out to do things like splat ball. Lift weights together. If hunting or golf is your thing, take him with you. Sharing your many hobbies with him will definitely make him feel special.

on 3/22/2008 Good ideas! I think tween sons also need special together time with the Moms - time that isn't for any other reason except to share time together doing something you both want to do and building memories. Once in a while, we go see a movie. I avoid being his Mom or teacher trying to turn the movie into a homeschooling moment. We're just hanging out, sharing something we both like and having a relaxing day.
