Step 1
Develop your tween's talent. While having a stage presence is great, it is helpful if your tween also has an additional talent like singing, dancing, or playing instruments. This can make them more attractive to talents scouts and agents.
-
Step 2
Develop your tween's interpersonal skills. A child in the tween years should have a good attention span, be able to interview well, without mom or dad's help and follow instructions well.
-
Step 3
Have your tween take some acting classes. You will want your tween to be able to read a script cold, project their voice, use emotions, and have a bit of perceived experience. There are many agencies that sell acting classes. You must beware of any agency that promises to make your child a star or asks you to pay for a portfolio or anything beyond a reasonable number of classes. Try to find acting camps as they will be more fun for your child.
-
Step 4
Get your tween involved in local theater or children's theater. Encourage them to try out for school plays. They will need to have some sort of experience on their resume when they are searching for an acting job.
-
Step 5
Check Internet sites like Craigslist for acting calls and agents. Also do Internet searches for agents. Make sure the acting call is appropriate for your child and also that it is legitimate. Ask outright if you will have to pay anything if your child interviews. No legitimate casting director or agent will ask you to pay for anything, not even pictures.
