Things You'll Need
- Art canvas
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrushes
- Stencils
- Stencil brush
- Black marker
Instructions
-
-
1
Choose artist quality acrylic paints for your canvas. Acrylic paints are easy to clean from the stencil and provide intense color.
-
2
Apply a solid background color to the canvas. Brush short strokes of green at the bottom of the canvas to represent grass.
-
-
3
Choose stencils of ladybugs, worms, butterflies and dragonflies for a bug theme.
-
4
Place your first stencil on the canvas. Tape the stencil in place with masking tape. Pick up a small amount of paint on the stencil brush and dab it on a paper towel to remove the excess. Rub lightly in a circular motion to fill in the stencil, taking care to get paint in all the corners. The color should be uneven and light to create a more realistic look. Allow each stenciled character to dry before adding another one to the canvas.
-
5
Personalize the artwork with letter stencils spelling out the baby's name. Add a sentiment or a quote to the artwork.
-
6
Add finishing touches to the artwork with black permanent markers. Consider partially outlining the bugs or dotting spots on a ladybug with the marker.
