Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Paint
- Creativity
- Brushes
- Painter's tape
Step1
Do you have an old table you would like to spruce up? Using marble faux painting you can change the entire look of the tabletop. To do this, paint the table in a white paint. Then, using a feather, streak the still wet paint with gray paint. Try to mimic the look of real marble. Seal with a high-gloss polyurethane.
Step2
Got a wall that needs a focal point? Why not paint a fake window on it? Tape off a nice square with painter's tape, then tape a smaller square in the center to make a window frame. Paint that with a color that matches your other windows. Next, paint a simple outdoor scene in your faux window. It doesn't have to be perfect!
Step3
Want to liven up a children's room? Why not paint a farm, circus or racetrack on the walls? You can have your child help and it doesn't take much skill. Think coloring book pictures: simple lines and forms.
Step4
For more ideas, pick up some books about the subject. "The House that Faux Built" by Adrienne van Dooren gives a lot of inspiration.

on 3/20/2008 I love the faux painting idea! I have tried it before, but wasn't too pleased with my results. However, now that you've mentioned it, I think I'm going to try again! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation!

on 3/19/2008 I know what you mean! I'm always thinking up new ways to liven up plain things. I just faux painted my daughters' bunk bed, in fact!

on 3/19/2008 I used the faux Florence finish in my breakfast room and it really looks great. Now flat walls just don't seem quite as exciting anymore!
