Save Money On Groceries Without Coupons

Grocery shopping and household shopping is something we all have to do. It is a necessity to have adequate food, drinks and paper products in the house. Unfortunately, this shopping can get really expensive when you are not looking for bargains.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the closest dollar store to your home. A lot of dollar stores carry name brand products that you can get for, well, 1 dollar. Find household items when you shop at the dollar store: toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and cleaning products. This will save you up to $100 or more than if you were to buy these items at your grocery store.

  2. Step 2

Look for great gifts at your dollar store from time to time. Your dollar store will have picture frames, arts and crafts, journals, children's toys, and gift packages. From time to time you can pick up some great gifts and package them together for an abundant holiday gift for under $10!

  3. Step 3

Pay attention at the grocery store. Look at the bottom 2 shelves when buying foods in the aisles. The ones that are at eye level are almost always more expensive than the ones below. Avoid the end cap foods where there will be displays of food for sale at the end of each aisle. These spots are used for quick, easy buys that are often more expensive than they seem.

  4. Step 4

Avoid impulse/emotional buys. At the grocery store, there are many products strategically placed just for impulse buys. Even right before you get to the register you might find bins of food for sale that you might buy last minute. Many times these foods and items are placed there just for the impulse buy. Don't fall for it!

  5. Step 5

Take a list of foods you need for your home and family, and stick to your list. It takes self-discipline to stick to a grocery list, but in time you can do it. You need nothing more than what is on your grocery list.

on 9/14/2008 Good tips. I've heard most of them before, but refreshing them is always a good move to avoid getting home with 3 bags full of "why did I buy this" items. :-)
