Things You'll Need:
- Chess board
- Friend
- Basic knowledge of the rules of chess, as well as positioning.
-
Step 1
First, you have to understand two things. A) This is only an opening strategy, and is more of a defense oriented than attack B) It will not win every game of chess for you, especially if its all you know how to do, or are against a skilled opponent. This is for people who have other strategies to use as well. The whole point of this is to put your king into the best defensive position possible.
-
Step 2
Assuming you're the white side, start by moving your Pawn at D2 to D4.
-
Step 3
Next, move your Kings Knight from G1 to either F3 or H3, this is solely preference.
-
Step 4
Now move your Pawn at E2 to E3.
-
Step 5
Move your Kings Bishop from F1 to D3.
-
Step 6
Now Castle your King with your Rook. This should leave your Rook at F1, and your King at G1. Your King is now in an excellent defensive position, and so ends this strategy.

on 2/9/2009 I've got a few things in response to that. First, do you really think that a man who died in 1932 cares if he gets credit on an internet article? If I had known the name, I'd of used it. I do apologize if I made it seem like I came up with it though, as it was shown to me. Second, this article is obviously meant for casual players, as I doubt anyone who really plays chess comes to ehow for their strategies. Its just meant to give someone an edge while they're wasting time at a coffee shop or something.

on 2/8/2009 That's just the Colle Opening. At least say the name here and give him credit. A better choice is the Colle-Zukertort. In that opening the QB has an opportunity to do some damage rather than just sitting at home waiting for the Bd2 to move. Btw, the King's Indian Defense will eat the Colle alive.
