Everybody deserves a break from work at work but not everyone gets the opportunity to step away and recharge. It's up to you to find ways to refresh yourself. Here's how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A small portion of self-discipline
  1. Step 1

Use your breaks wisely. Try to package the inevitable personal business and take care of it all at once. You'll get some chores off your plate and feel better when you go back to work.

  2. Step 2

Change your environment. Eat lunch somewhere—anywhere—other than in the office or the shop. Many people sit in their cars and listen to music while they eat. Others go for a walk.

  3. Step 3

Cut the leash. Breaks and lunch are your time. Turn off your cell phone and pager. Very few people are so important that they have to be on call all the time. Odds are you're not one of them.

  4. Step 4

Deal with people face-to-face. Instead of emailing Ted, walk down the stairs and across the hall. It still counts as work and you get a couple of minutes of real human interaction.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's not the number of breaks that counts but what you do with them.
