How to Find Horse Training Seminars

Horses are complicated creatures and you often run into problems while trying to train them to do exactly what you want. You may run into a block you just can't overcome. Training seminars are a great way to get the help you need. Many times you don't hear about them until they are over. Be proactive and use these steps to find a horse-training seminar.

1. Make the rounds of local feed stores, stables, public riding arenas and colleges to check for flyers and ads on bulletin boards. If you are close to a college that offers horsemanship classes, call the program administrator to inquire about horse-training seminars.
2. Contact horse-owner friends to see if they know of any upcoming training events.
3. Use some of the online resources listed below to find a seminar.
4. Get on the mailing list of your favorite clinician so you will know when they are going to be in your area.
5. Pick up a "Practical Horseman" or "Western Horseman" magazine at your local newsstand and peruse the ads pertaining to training seminars.
6. Subscribe to your breed association's journal for whichever breed of horse you own and watch for ads for training seminars.

Tips & Warnings

• Some clinicians allow you to bring your own horse, but some want you to use theirs. Most will allow you to audit the class at a lower fee.
• Ask about the clinician's philosophy before attending a seminar to be sure you can be comfortable and learn something at the seminar.
• Be sure to ask if the seminar is limited to a smaller number of participants. It's hard to get the help you need if the participant to clinician ratio is high.
