1
Determine the shape of your face. The easiest way to do this is to sit in front of a mirror and outline with lipstick the shape of your image. When you look at it drawn on a mirror, it is easier to tell if your face is oval, round, square or heart shaped.
-
2
Keep your hair shoulder length or shorter if you have a square face. A square face is equally long as it is wide. People with square faces tend to have sharp features. Soft haircuts with off-center parts and wispy bangs look good on a square face.

Grow your hair a little bit longer if your face is oval. Oval faces are longer than they are wide and need longer hair to offset them. Avoid hairstyles that cover your face and make it appear more narrow. Choose a style that carries most of the length and weight in the back.
-
4
Get a tapered haircut if your face is round. Avoid bulky, full hair styles that make your round face look wider.
-
5
Choose a haircut that falls below your chin if your face is shaped like a heart. A heart shaped face has a wide forehead and narrow chin. Hair shorter than your chin makes your face appear wider. Side parts and layered styles look good on heart-shaped faces.
