1
Make sure you're catching the right bugs for your pet. Don't assume that because it's any old insect it's good for your pet. Read up on your pet's diet or speak to your vet for more information.
-
2
Decide whether you want to give your pet live or dead bugs. Many pets won't eat dead bugs or need the exercise to catch a live bug. Of course, when you introduce live bugs into your home, you're running the risk the bugs will get out.

3
Get a jar with a good lid on it. If you're going to immediately feed your pet, you don't have to worry about providing soil, water or food for the insects. Make sure you punch a small air hole and keep the jar out of the sun though.
-
4
Look for bugs in wood piles, beneath rocks, in tall grass or in bark. However, watch out for snakes, since snakes like these areas too.
-
5
Use your hands or an insect net to catch crickets and grasshoppers. Grab them and place them into a jar with a good lid. Make sure they don't jump back out again. It's best to catch crickets in the morning as they're a little slower.
-
6
Put out a little food to bait the insects such as bread crumbs coated in sugar. Put a newspaper over the bread crumbs and leave it alone over night. In the morning, collect whatever bugs came to eat the bread crumbs.
-
7
Spread a tarp or a small open umbrella beneath a bush. Shake the bush to knock the insects off and collect whatever fell.
