How to Dress Nicely for a Regular Junior High Dance

Junior high dances provide students with a safe environment to socialize with their peers. The dress code for the dance sets the atmosphere for it. A junior high dance may require casual, semi-casual, semi-formal or formal attire. If the dress code isn't specified, plan to dress nicely and follow semi-formal guidelines.

    Instructions

      • 1

Follow the school dress code. Many schools don't enforce a dress code, but other schools, especially ones affiliated with churches, do. Often a dress code prohibits spaghetti straps or halter tops. It may restrict the length of your skirt to no shorter than the tips of your fingers when your hands hang down at your sides.

Dress like you would for church. For boys, pair jeans, corduroys or slacks without holes with a polo or button-up shirt and no tie. Girls should wear slacks or a skirt with a nice shirt or a dress. The point of a junior high dance is to have fun, not hooking up.

Be modest with your shirts and pants. Choose shirts no lower than one hand's width from your collar bone. If you wear a backless shirt, choose one that doesn't extend below your natural waist. Keep your pants within one hand's width of your belly button.

Keep your underwear under your clothes. Pin bra straps or wear a thong to keep your undies in place. Visible underwear doesn't look sexy; it just looks tacky.

Wear comfortable shoes, but not tennis shoes. High-heels may look great, but after the first 30 minutes, your feet may hurt. Wear dress shoes that match your outfit and allow you to move without pain. Choose shoes that you've already broken in rather than new shoes.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Borrow or trade outfits with a friend instead of buying new clothes.
