Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Land survey
  • Calculator
  1. Step 1

Know there are 43,560 square feet are in one acre of land. This number is necessary to calculate the acreage of the property.

  2. Step 2

Get a survey, a simple drawing of a parcel of land that includes the length and width of the property. Surveys are completed when you purchase a home and locating it among your original mortgage paperwork will prevent you from spending money to get a new one done. Find the length and width of the property on the survey and write them down.

  3. Step 3

Multiply the length by the width of the property. This simple calculation will give you the total square footage of the parcel of land.

  4. Step 4

Divide the total square footage of the property by the number of square footage in one acre of land (provided in Step 1). On paper, the calculation should look something like this (square footage of property) รท (43,650) = Total Acreage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't approximate when you calculate acreage. If you are selling a home, you must use exact numbers or you could have trouble with the buyer when closing the sale.
