There are several reasons you might need to eat something that tastes unpleasant. Perhaps you are at an important business meeting and you don't want to offend your dinner companions. Maybe your doctor prescribed something unpalatable that you must add to your diet for health reasons. Some medications can give certain foods an off flavor. There are coping mechanisms to help you eat something unpleasant.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Add the unpleasant tasting food to sauces or gravies. This is effective with most meats and vegetables if you chop the food finely in a food processor or blender.
Step2
Season the unpleasant tasting food generously with lemon juice. The tart flavor can overwhelm subtle but unappealing flavors.
Step3
Marinate the food in juice, salad dressing or a commercially prepared marinade of your choice. Marinate the food for several hours or overnight for maximum palatability.
Step4
Serve the unpleasant tasting food cold or at room temperature. Cool foods distribute fewer odors, and odor contributes a large part of what we perceive as taste.
Step5
Remove yourself from the food-preparation area. If you expose yourself to cooking odors and the sight of the unpleasant food, these unappetizing stimuli can make the food seem more offensive.
Step6
Take small sips of a beverage between each bite of food. If you chop the food into small pieces, you can wash it down before you taste very much of it.
Step7
Preface the meal with an aperitif. A light alcoholic beverage, such as a martini, can stimulate the appetite and increase the appeal of the unpleasant food.
