Eating pizza while you jog may seem like a no-brainer, but there are actually many pitfalls that can befall the munching jogger. Take some precautions and use a little common sense for a problem-free run with your favorite slice of the good stuff.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Water bottle.
  • Thick napkins or cardboard container.

Step1
Order only one or no topping on your pizza. The more toppings you have, the more likely that they will fall off with your jogging motion. Choose meats such as pepperoni or sausage that stick better to the cheese and avoid toppings that have many small pieces, like diced vegetables.
Step2
Package the pizza yourself in an easy-access 1-slice cardboard container or hold the slice firmly between a heavy-duty napkin. If your pizza vendor doesn't have appropriate packaging, use any material that is thick enough to stop grease seeping through to your hands.
Step3
Fold the pizza slice in half so that the cheese and tomato topping is in the center of the fold. This helps prevent the hot toppings burning the roof of your mouth or hand and the toppings splattering. If you pick out a calzone, this will have the toppings sealed inside.
Step4
Pause while jogging to take a small bite of the pizza and chew thoroughly before you resume the exercise. Never take large bites, especially of thick crust, because your body may be unable to digest them properly with the constant movement.
Step5
Drink frequent sips of water after every mouthful to help your body digest the food and stop you choking as you move up and down. Water will also hydrate you as you exercise and help settle your stomach.
