How to Determine the Gender of a Date

If dating wasn't hard enough already, you are now faced with a situation where you need to find out the gender of your date without being rude or offensive. Do a little old-fashioned detective work and keep your eyes and ears open for clues.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Put the date into context of how you met, who set you up and the circumstances that surrounded your meeting. If you are clear about your sexual preference, it should follow that if a mutual friend introduced you, your date knows this. If the date is blind, think about the information you gave about yourself and how your date could interpret this.
Step2
Start a conversation about sports and then ask what sports the person played at school or college. There are very few occasions where boys and girls are separated but school sports is one of them. If they answer neutrally such as "swimming," ask more in depth questions about a sports kit or teacher.
Step3
Look for signs of facial hair, especially around the ears and under the chin. With so many hair-removal products available, both men and women can easily hide hair, but sideburns and a dark shadow grow so fast and are much harder to disguise for any period of time.
Step4
Listen to the vocabulary that they use. Consider the slang, humor or cuss words they use, as this reveals a lot about the age, situation and gender of a person.
Step5
Take your date to a security sensitive area such as a government building or casino where a person will have to show identification. Look at the title on the card for a "Mr." or "Miss." The same thing might work with a credit card or check book, so get your date to pick up the tab for something.
