A great way to pass a windy afternoon with children is to blow soap bubbles. There are many ways you can blow soap bubbles. Some people get toys with fans that blow hundreds of bubbles in just a few seconds. Others use wands or pipes. You can also use your hands to blow soap bubbles.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Make soapy water. Combine about 2 to 3 quarts water with a cup of dish soap. Mix the soap gently into the water so it doesn't create suds.
Step2
Pour your soapy water into a dishpan or bowl. Make sure it's large enough to fit your fist.
Step3
Clench your fist and lower the entire thing into the soapy water.
Step4
Open your hand slowly while it's under the water. Make sure your thumb and your index finger stay together.
Step5
Pull your hand out of the soapy water slowly and carefully.
Step6
See if you've formed a small film of soapy water in your fist. It should look like the film you'd get in a bubble blower. If not, repeat until you have one.
Step7
Blow into your fist and watch the bubble float away.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider using distilled water rather than tap water if you have hard water coming out of your faucets.
  • Many experts suggest putting a little corn syrup into the soapy water to make longer lasting bubbles. Use about half a cup per 2 to 3 quarts water.
