How to Create a Chalk Pastel and Glue Drawing
Drawing with colorful chalk pastel and white craft glue is a unique and exciting way to create art, and a great family project. Young children can do a very simple design and older children and adults can create more involved and complicated compositions. Either way, the result will be an interesting use of texture and color. - Black construction paper
- Pencil
- White craft glue in a squeeze bottle (non-toxic)
- Brightly colored chalk or chalk pastels
- Pastel and charcoal fixative or hairspray

Protect your working surface with an old tablecloth or a layer of newspapers.

Sketch a simple design on a piece of black construction paper.

Trace the pencil lines with white craft glue.

Allow the picture to dry completely, at least 24 hours.

Color the empty areas with colorful chalk or chalk pastels, using the side of the chalk. Don't color completely to the glue, and leave a narrow area uncovered.

Spray the drawing with fixative or hairspray to preserve the colors and prevent the chalk from smudging. Allow it to dry before displaying.

Tips & Warnings
You can use as many colors as you like, even layering the colors, if desired. Don't be afraid to be creative and experiment with the colors.
Mix a small amount of gold or silver glitter with the white craft glue for a totally different look. This is especially nice if your picture is for Christmas.
Always use only white craft glue, which will produce the desired artistic effect. It's also non-staining, non-toxic and safe for even very young children.
