Instructions

    • 1

Protect your working surface with an old tablecloth or a layer of newspapers.

    • 2

Sketch a simple design on a piece of black construction paper.

    • 3

Trace the pencil lines with white craft glue.

    • 4

Allow the picture to dry completely, at least 24 hours.

    • 5

Color the empty areas with colorful chalk or chalk pastels, using the side of the chalk. Don't color completely to the glue, and leave a narrow area uncovered.

    • 6

Spray the drawing with fixative or hairspray to preserve the colors and prevent the chalk from smudging. Allow it to dry before displaying.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use as many colors as you like, even layering the colors, if desired. Don't be afraid to be creative and experiment with the colors.

  • Mix a small amount of gold or silver glitter with the white craft glue for a totally different look. This is especially nice if your picture is for Christmas.

  • Always use only white craft glue, which will produce the desired artistic effect. It's also non-staining, non-toxic and safe for even very young children.
