Creating a Charlie Brown Christmas tree is a festive way to celebrate the holiday season with your family. With a little creativity, you can decorate a pretty little tree that represents love, togetherness and the absence of commercialism, which are the main characteristics expressed in Charlie Brown's classic Christmas theme.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select a Christmas tree with multiple bare patches, an uneven trunk and sparse needles. The more pathetic looking the tree, the more it will follow your Charlie Brown theme. You might also consider making a Charlie Brown tree out of a branch of a Christmas tree.

  2. Step 2

Place multiple sheets of newsprint or several garbage bags over the area in which you will work on the tree, and then place the tree on top.

  3. Step 3

Spray paint the naked branches of the tree or branch using the spray paint color of your choice, and then let the tree dry before decorating it further.

  4. Step 4

Place the tree in the tree stand. Make sure that the stand is stable, and will not fall over, but if the tree is crooked in the stand, this will only add to the effect of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

  5. Step 5

Add decorations to the tree. To keep with the theme of your tree, use ornaments sparingly, and add unconventional decorations, such as a wind chime or some small toys. If the tree is particularly unstable and weak, tie ornaments to the branches with wire.

  6. Step 6

Place the tree in a spot in your home where everyone can gather to admire it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're decorating a branch as your Charlie Brown Christmas tree, try gluing or nailing the bottom to two crossed wooden boards, as Charlie Brown does in the Christmas television special. Add a red Christmas bulb to the tree. You can then use the tree as a centerpiece.
  • Do not decorate the tree with any fragile or special ornaments, because the weak and straggly tree might tip over and cause them to break.
  • Spray paint the branches of the tree outdoors, or in a garage or shed. Make sure there are no small children or pets around when you use the paint.
