How to Become Popular if a Weird Girl

If you have the reputation of being the "weird girl," that doesn't mean you can't also be a popular girl. Not all popular girls fall into the "cheerleader" category--being different can make you interesting and fun. Here's how to be a nonconformist and still have lots of friends.

1. Be likable even if you're weird. It's easy to turn yourself into an outcast if your personality frightens other people because it's so unusual. If you're defensive, unfriendly, overly emotional or overreact when you're teased, you won't be popular. Be witty, charming and friendly and people will react positively to you, even if you stand out from the crowd for other reasons.

2. Establish a fashion "look." You don't have to follow the big fashion trends or dress like other popular girls, but you need to look cute and have a defined style. Wear what fits your personality--vintage clothing, goth clothing or tomboy sweats. Just make sure you have a consistent, attractive style.

3. Be outgoing. Popular people are friendly--whether they're conformists or "weird." Ask your classmates about their lives. Make small talk. Laugh at other people's jokes.

4. Be funny. Popular girls generally want to hang out with other girls who are similar to them. The one exception is the "weird girl" who has a fantastic sense of humor, tells great stories and keeps them entertained.

5. Hang out with the other popular kids. You can keep your base of "weird" friends, too, but you need to stick with the "in crowd" if you want to be part of it.

6. Maintain a confident attitude even if you get teased. No one has respect for a girl who crumbles the first time someone pokes fun at her. Have a clever comeback or be humorously self-deprecating to show you can handle the criticism.
