It's important to keep your balance as you skateboard. Your body is the most important addition to any skateboarding stance after the skateboard itself. You need to realize that balance is the key ingredient to all tricks. Slight movements of your body on the skateboard enable you to straighten up or turn as you move.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Set your board in front of you on the ground. Place both feet over a bolt on the skateboard. The distance between your feet allows you to maintain balance while riding.
Step2
Put your back foot on the ground and push the skateboard forward. Replace it over the back bolt when you begin moving forward. Keep your foot pointed straight, never inward, for proper balance as you push.
Step3
Bend your body slightly forward in a "hunched" position and slightly bend your knees. Standing too straight makes your body too stiff to properly keep your balance.
Step4
Hold your arms out on each side to maintain better balance and aerodynamics.
Step5
Make slight movements back and forth with your body. Continue to work with the positioning of your arms to achieve the right balance. The only thing that ensures proper balance every time is practice.
Step6
Crouch down on the skateboard if you begin to lose your balance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear slip-resistant, closed-toe shoes, like sneakers
  • Inspect your wheels daily to keep wear and tear from becoming a balance problem.
