Just because you are goth doesn't mean that you have to be scary. You can be a more glamorous goth and people will find you sultry and mysterious instead of scary. Follow these steps to find out how to be goth without scaring people.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tone down the traditional gothic makeup. Wear thinner eyeliner than a scary goth would wear and wear light foundation instead of white face paint.

  2. Step 2

Look for clothes that are pretty and glamorous. Think lace instead of fishnet. Thrift stores make an excellent source for cheap clothing.

  3. Step 3

Add some color to your wardrobe. Throwing in dark blue and maroon will set you apart from the scary goths.

  4. Step 4

Go for a renaissance look. Classic goths are into vampires and death, if you go for a renaissance or Victorian look you will be less scary.

  5. Step 5

Smile and act happy. Goths don't always have to act sad; if you act happy you won't scare people.

  6. Step 6

Accessorize your gothic look. Crucifixes and renaissance style jewelry will give you a glamorous look and won't make you appear scary.

  7. Step 7

Style your hair in whatever way you feel suits your personality. Express yourself through fun colors and styles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Being goth is about personality as well as what you wear. You don't have to be a scary goth if you don't want to be. Remain friendly and keep your look dark, but don't go overboard.
  • Avoid leather, spikes and chains, which will make you look too scary.
