Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose an instrument to play in the marching band. If playing an instrument is not your thing, there are other positions within a marching band unit--field commander, flag line or majorette.

  2. Step 2

Talk to others that are in a marching band. The best advice for any new endeavor is straight from someone already involved. Ask family members or friends if they know of a marching band you can participate in.

  3. Step 3

Watch competitions, shows or parades to learn more about the marching band you're interested in. Watching the marching band's performance and actions can guide your ultimate decision to approach that marching band or look for another.

  4. Step 4

Join a marching band unit. You've completed Steps 1 through 3 and have decided that you do want to be in a marching band. Your next move is choosing a marching band.

  5. Step 5

Attend a marching band camp or training sessions to learn marching steps and routines. There may be group training sessions or individual lessons for you to participate in.

  6. Step 6

Practice your instrument and routine together. Your marching band unit needs your full commitment to them through hard work, dedication and commitment to your position within the family.
