Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Circulate in creative communities within New York City. Become a successful writer, musician or dancer or work for a major magazine or talent agency. Anyone who works in a creative field in New York, whether it's in the art world or not, gets invited to art gallery openings.
Step2
Work for a gallery, museum or an affiliate. An art gallery or exhibit publicist, art critic, artist or artist rep can always get invited to other gallery openings and exhibits. Everyone in the art world knows each other--just listen to all the gossip at the next opening.
Step3
Earn lots of money. Even if you're not an artistic or creative type, you can garner plenty of gallery invites by being rich or well-heeled. Galleries and artists need patrons, and a moneybags stockbroker or real estate mogul can supply those bucks.
Step4
Read the "Village Voice" and other alternative NYC papers and websites. Alt websites sometimes have RSVP lists and other art gallery information. Once you sign up, you'll get invited to future openings.
Step5
Sign the guest book at openings. You'll be invited to that gallery's future exhibits, and other events that take place there, like poetry readings or film screenings.
