How to Be Proud Without Being Cocky and Conceited
Pride is obtained as a result of doing a job well or succeeding at something. While many sources from the Bible to the Buddha say that pride is a negative emotion that stands in the way of positive self-esteem, many of us still feel pride in our accomplishments. The trick is to keep our pride in check and not talk about ourselves in a cocky and conceited manner. Read on to learn how to be proud without being cocky and conceited.

1
Keep your elation in your accomplishments to yourself. You don't have to talk about your achievements to feel good about them. It is the inner sense of knowing you've done well that sustains your self-esteem.

2
Accept compliments gracefully. When someone finds out about your good fortune, smile and say, "Thank you." You don't have to denigrate your accomplishments with "Oh, it was nothing," or "I just got lucky." Leave it at thank you, and enjoy the moment.

Be aware of others' accomplishments and success. If you let your pride move you to think you are better than others, it can show. Let other people have their moments too. If someone is excited about a success, cheer her on, and leave yourself out of the equation. Give compliments as freely and gracefully as you receive them.

4
Wear your pride loosely and inconspicuously. If you have just gotten a big raise or bonus, don't come into work wearing a flashy new outfit or driving a new car that you constantly talk about. Be discreet, and others will notice and appreciate your grace.
