Scene kids are noted for their haircuts, MySpace obsession, love of music, positive attitude, lip piercings and eyeliner. Most scene kids are health-conscious and avoid smoking and drinking. Many are vegan or vegetarian. Becoming part of the scene is something you should do gradually, as it can be quite a lifestyle change. Read on to learn how to be part of the scene.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Appearance

  1. Step 1

Dye your hair black or bleach it until it's light blonde, and straighten it. You can add one streak of color like a bright blue or pink if you want to add some individuality. Your hair should be cut so that it covers only one eye. The back of the hair should be no more than a few inches below your hairline at the nape of your neck. Make sure it doesn't touch your shoulders. This goes for both guys and girls and is most popular for Caucasian kids.

  2. Step 2

Wear tight, skinny jeans with pencil-legged cuffs if male. You can wear girl's jeans if you can't find them in the men's section. Add a band T-shirt that's the smallest size you can possibly fit into. Add a white, studded belt to your jeans. Show a little of your tummy and underwear. (This happens naturally because the jeans are so tight.) Wear Vans or Converse Chucks for your shoes.

  3. Step 3

Put together outfits that don't match, like stripes and polka dots together, if you're female. Scene girls wear hoodies and leggings with bold, bright colors that don't match. Wear ballerina flats on your feet. Girls can do pencil-legged jeans as well; just add layered shirts when you do. Get a designer bag though and huge sunglasses.

  4. Step 4

Put on loads of black eyeliner no matter whether you're a guy or a girl. This a major demarcation for the scene crowd.

  5. Lifestyle

  6. Step 1

Maintain a positive attitude. Sometimes scene is confused with emo. Emo kids are generally thought to be emotionally unstable. Scene kids aren't. Scene is usually upbeat, cutesy and fun to be around. Lots of scene kids are straight-edge, meaning they don't drink or smoke, and many are Christians.

  7. Step 2

Join MySpace and add as many friends as possible. Scene kids market themselves well on MySpace and spend a great deal of time on this site. Add Xs before and after your screen name to denote to others your scene persuasion. Take lots of pictures of yourself by holding the camera in one hand and shooting. Try to make them artsy. Add all of them to your profile.

  8. Step 3

Learn the vocab. "That's the sex," "Raw," "Rad and "Stellar" are some of the most common phrases. Check out your new friends' MySpace blogs for the newest lingo.

  9. Step 4

Become a vegan or at least a vegetarian. Scene kids are pretty health conscious.

  10. Step 5

Go to shows. Music is the passion and heart of the scene crowd. Scene kids are obsessed with music, especially indie. Get out there, support some new bands and get the bands T-shirts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Join the scene crowd gradually. Never say you want "To be scene" or admit that you are. Take things one step at a time. Becoming scene is a process, much like everything else in life.
  • Try to avoid designer clothes and rip out all labels once you have purchased the clothing.
