How to Become a Geography Master
Obtaining a Masters degree in geography is a process that begins early in a student's university career. Before entering an accredited graduate program, the student will already have a firm undergraduate background in geography. Complete your undergraduate studies in geography. Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Contact your desired college for their exact GPA requirements.

Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Courses are offered throughout the year at universities and private testing centers. Score more than 1050 on both the verbal and quantitative portions of the test. Study before your exam with free online test preparation guides.

Gather letters of recommendation from past professors who can detail your academic strengths. Professors in related subjects are preferable but any professor's letter of recommendation is a plus.

Produce a strong academic background in quantitative analysis and scientific studies when applying to a Masters program in geography.

Expect to spend two full years of study on all the related geography fields. Take a full caseload of 15 credit hours per academic year.

Prepare your thesis in the field of geography and give a public lecture. Check your desired Masters program for additional study requirements specific to that institution. You will choose a thesis advisor who will approve your topic and oversee your progress. Once your thesis is completed and reviewed you will receive your Masters in geography.
