Things You'll Need:
- Skateboard key or socket wrench
-
Step 1
Remove the wheels from the trucks of the board using your skateboard key. The trucks are the metal rods that hold the wheels on the board. If you don't have a skateboard key, use a socket wrench instead. Remove each nut that holds the wheels in place and slowly slide the wheels off of the trucks.
-
Step 2
Pop out the old bearings from inside of the wheels. There are two bearings on each wheel. Hook one bearing onto the truck and apply downward pressure. The bearing should pop out of the wheel when you apply an adequate amount of pressure. Flip the wheel over, and remove the second bearing. Repeat the process for all four wheels.
-
Step 3
Insert a new bearing into one side of a wheel. Press the bearing into the wheel by sliding it back onto the truck. This should push the bearing snugly into place. Remove the wheel from the truck again and add the second bearing to that same wheel. Slide it back on the truck to achieve the proper fit. Follow the same procedure on each of the four wheels.
-
Step 4
Slide each wheel back onto the trucks in the same manner that you removed them. Tighten each nut slowly so that you don't damage your bearings. Stop when the nut feels snug against the wheel.
