Modeling is one of the more glamorous careers. Flying around the world wearing beautiful clothes and mingling with beautiful people is an opportunity few would decline. However, being a model takes more than just a pretty face and a perfect body. Read the steps below to learn how to act like a model.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Determine whether you are actually model material. Have a friend take some basic head shots and body shots of you to get a sense of how photogenic you are.
Step2
Acquire representation through a modeling agency that is reputable and doesn't require payment for their services. Compose a portfolio that showcases the range of your photo ability and versatility.
Step3
Learn how to walk professionally through the use of a catwalk instructor. Remember to maintain good posture when standing and sitting and practice proper posture at all times to help retrain your muscles to exhibit this behavior all the time.
Step4
Discover a little of each major language throughout the world in order to be able to communicate on a basic level with clients; French, Italian, Spanish, and a little Japanese are necessary for optimal functioning. Be professional and on time for all photo shoots, castings, go sees and runway shows.
Step5
Take good care of your body and face. Avoid extreme haircuts or fluctuations in weight so you can stay a blank canvas designers can use as their muse. Acquire a business manager to help organize your finances and save for the future.
Step6
Know what positions and poses your body looks good in and use that ability in your photo shoots. Learn how to take direction very well from a photographer and temper this with an intuitive understanding of how to move and position yourself to achieve an optimal photograph.

Tips & Warnings

  • Learn how to take criticism gracefully and try not to be too sensitive as the industry is quite critical.
  • Keep a scheduling book with all of your important appointments and do your best to be on time if not early for everything.
  • Exude confidence with a healthy dose of humility.
  • Do not resort to drugs or poor eating habits to maintain industry weight standards. This will render you less able to handle the demands of the job.
