Step 1
Pass the working end of the line through the hook's eye. Bring it back out and form a loop about 6 inches long by pushing it over the standing end from the front. Hold the loop together with the thumb and forefinger.
-
Step 2
Wrap the working end at least two complete turns around the loop formed in Step 1. Begin on the end away from the hook and work towards the hook. Bring the working end up from the bottom of the last wrapping and pass it through the center of the wrappings.
-
Step 3
Dress the scaffold knot by tightening the wrappings. Work the slack out of the wrappings by starting away from the hook and working toward it. Take up the slack with the working end.
-
Step 4
Tie a scaffold knot without the hook. In this case you would probably use rope instead of fishing line and make only one wrap. This use of the scaffold knot results in a noose with a slip knot that the standing end of the rope slips easily through.
-
Step 5
Untie the scaffold knot made in Step 4 by pulling the noose all the way through the knot.
