Step 1
Form a loop A so that the working end is under the standing end. Bring the working end over loop A and pass it back under the standing end to form a loop B parallel to loop A.
-
Step 2
Pass the working end between these loops so that it is under loop B but on top of loop A. Pull loop B through loop A so that loop B becomes the actual angler's loop.
-
Step 3
Lubricate the line if needed to prevent it from becoming worn from friction, especially ii using monofilament. The most common use of the angler's loop with this type of line is to tie a small loop in the end of a leader.
-
Step 4
Tighten the knot and dress it by pulling the standing end and loop B in opposite directions. Trim the excess length of the working end if needed. Check the loop to ensure it is stable and cannot capsize. It should line up with the standing end if it is dressed properly.
-
Step 5
Tie an angler's loop "in the bight." This means the knot may be tied without using either end of line by using bights of rope instead of an end.
