Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Sponges
- Scissors
- Thread
- Needle
- Permanent, waterproof adhesive
Step1
Get new sponges of varying sizes. Vividly colored sponges appeal to children.
Step2
Cut the sponges into interesting shapes. Use a marker or felt pen to outline your desired shape on the sponge before cutting the sponge with a pair of sharp scissors. Try cutting sponges into animal, letter and number shapes to help smaller children learn while bathing.
Step3
Glue small plastic toys on top of the sponge. Attach googly eyes, toy soldiers or other water-resistant small toys to the sponges using a permanent, waterproof adhesive, such as Superglue or Krazy Glue. The sponge acts like a little island for the toys. Set the sponges aside to air dry before using them in the bath.
Step4
Thread a piece of string through a needle and pull the string through the sponge. Glue one end of the string to the sponge's surface and allow it to dry. Tie a small plastic toy in the form of a diver, fish or other sea life to the unglued end of the string. Place the sponge in the bathtub and watch as the toy floats beneath the water.
Step5
Allow kids to stack plain sponges on top of each to build different structures.
