Things You'll Need:
- Sponges
- Ammonia
- Container
- Rubber gloves
-
Step 1
Determine the areas in your garden that need protection. Pets are often attracted to the scent of decaying plants, fruits and vegetables. Check areas with plant life for trampling and other signs of a dog's presence.
-
Step 2
Put on rubber gloves so that your hands will be protected from the chemicals contained in ammonia.
-
Step 3
Fill a bucket or container with ammonia. Put sponges in the container and allow the sponges to soak up as much ammonia as they can.
-
Step 4
Remove the sponges.
-
Step 5
Place the sponges in your garden on solid, elevated surfaces. Concrete or otherwise impermeable fixtures give the sponge a surface to lay on without letting the ammonia run off onto grass or plants.
-
Step 6
Set some ammonia-soaked sponges around your garden's perimeter as extra protection. This discourages dogs from even setting foot on your garden.
-
Step 7
Reapply the ammonia to the sponges as needed.
