Step 1
Find a plant to repot. You must take the plant out of its pot and repot with the sponge.
-
Step 2
Get a clean, new sponge. Regular yellow sponges that don't have a scrubbing side work best. The size of the sponge should correlate with the dimensions of the bottom of the pot. Using sponges too small or large for the pot could hurt your plant.
-
Step 3
Take your plant out of its pot. Remove the soil and clean the flowerpot.
-
Step 4
Cut the sponge with a sharp pair of scissors. Get creative when cutting the strips. Try to cut the sponge to fit into the pot's natural shape. If your pot is rounded, make at least one circular piece that can fit at the bottom.
-
Step 5
Moisten the sponges with water and arrange the pieces at the bottom of the pot evenly. Use custom-cut pieces to cover the bottom of the pot as well as you can.
-
Step 6
Repot the plant by pouring fresh soil over the sponges and replacing the plant in the pot.
-
Step 7
Water your plant regularly. Note when water seems to overflow in your flower pot, as this is a sign that the sponges have absorbed their capacity.
