Go over your Equifax credit report thoroughly once a year. Take the time to pull the records you have of each of the accounts listed on your report and compare your records with the records on the credit report. Make sure your personal information is completely correct, so you are not getting mixed up with another person with a similar name or personal information.

Highlight any errors you find on your Equifax credit report and gather all the proof you have for these errors and make copies of them. Make detailed notes about what the errors are and what the correct information should contain.

Visit the Equifax website for dispute guidelines. Print the dispute forms and instructions on the process for reporting the errors to the credit reporting agency.

Report the errors to the creditors involved. This will need to be done in writing as well, though it is a good idea to speak with someone on the phone or in person, too.

Add missing accounts to your credit file. Some accounts that are in your favor may not show up on your credit report. To make sure these are reflected, write a letter to the creditor and Equifax to report the account. This will help you if you have ever been told you don't have enough credit history.
