An indie film party is a great way to bring your friends together and have a themed party that is casual and fun. It's also good for spicing up a boring party scene. There are tons of great indie films to choose from, both classic and current. When it comes to decorations, let the movie be the inspiration for the party and you can't go wrong.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Choose movies for the event in advance and make sure you will have the films on hand before you send out invitations. Movie choice is the basis for your indie party decorations and if you haven't watched the movie before, see it before the party so that you can decorate using elements from the movie.
Step2
Get creative with the decorations. Think avant-garde and keep it simple. Pick an easily recognizable prop or scene from the movie to recreate, or decorate based on the period of the film or even the location if nothing else comes to mind. It could be as simple as a few feather boas or as complex as turning your home into a retro diner, depending on your needs and your style.
Step3
Pick a menu based on the movies. The menu is a great extension of your decorations because even the food can become props. For example, if you'll be watching The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic, serve burgers in white paper bags and shrimp cocktail.
Step4
Make decorations yourself. The spirit of the indie film scene is all about creative expression and imagination. Use what you have at home and transform those items into decorations. You'd be amazed what you can do with a string of party lights and some construction paper. Think outside the box.
Step5
Serve drinks and let people get to know each other before the film starts. Don't bother trying to keep people quiet during the movie, but you could set up more than one area for the party so that people who aren't into the film don't ruin it for those who are. Make sure there is ample seating and room to spread out and relax.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep lighting low and warm, but don't turn the lights off unless you want to put your party to sleep.
