With the box office success of several low-budget sleepers and the interest in film festivals on the rise, independent films in general have a growing, appreciative fan base. Express your love of Indie films by creating a blog that also discusses the industry's successes, community and opportunities.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a blog hosting site. Check its rules and restrictions and available features before starting an account. Consider a site with a monthly fee like Typepad or a free site like LiveJournal or Blogger. (See Resources)

  2. Step 2

Look through the pre-designed templates to find one that suits your style and the artistic mood of the blog.

  3. Step 3

Write posts, then proofread, edit and publish them. Although you may not be able to prevent all typographical errors, avoid excessive grammatical and spelling mistakes that will affect the reader's experience.

  4. Step 4

Stay on top of independent film releases and find older, lesser-known gems made in the Indie genre. Offer opinions on the direction, acting, lighting, score and behind-the-scenes elements that make the film worth seeing or worth forgetting.

  5. Step 5

Attend festivals to discover new talent to talk about on your blog. Give readers a few names and upcoming films to anticipate.

  6. Step 6

Cover premiers, movie award ceremonies and box office results to keep your readers up-to-date on the industry successes, accolades and buzz.

  7. Step 7

Provide helpful links and resources for independent Indie filmmakers. Uncover and post information about investors, funding and distributors, for example.

  8. Step 8

Drive traffic to your blog by adding your link when you comment on indie film message boards, other blogs or on film-related websites like the Independent Film Channel. Post regularly to keep readers returning to check out new entries. (See Resources)

on 3/28/2008 You forgot the most important step, well two actually:
1. Don't have a job
2. Talk about how the concept of money is 'so corporate' then hit up mom for some cash because those new chucks look sick!
