CNN desktop alert is a computer program that you can download for free. Once installed on your computer, it will send you the headlines and breaking news as it happens. This saves you from having to check the news to stay up on current events because you know the important information will come to you throughout your day.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Navigate to the CNN website from the computer you'd like to have the CNN desktop alert installed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

  2. Step 2

Look for the box on the right-hand side near the bottom of the CNN homepage that says "CNN Extras." The first option on the list inside that box is for the desktop alert system.

  3. Step 3

Click the link for the desktop alert once to open it. You'll see a variety of options. Choose "Desktop Alert."

  4. Step 4

Select "Download" and then select "Save." This will keep the information on the computer for future use. Close the task window when the download is complete.

  5. Step 5

Go to your desktop and click on the CNN desktop alert icon and select "Run." This begins the wizard that sets up the program to work on your system.

  6. Step 6

Answer the questions appropriately. This is the time to move where the program is stored on your computer if you choose, and where you'll agree to abide by the proper terms of use.

  7. Step 7

Choose "Finish" when you've completed the wizard and you'll see the desktop alert pop up on the lower-right corner of your computer. This is where breaking news alerts will appear.
