Ban the metal. Wooden stick sparklers are the safest choice for children. Unlike metal wire sparklers, a wooden sparkler isn't as sharp and is less likely to cause a wound during your children's mock sword fights. Wooden sparklers also cool more quickly after they extinguish, sparing your children from accidentally burning themselves by stepping on or picking up used sparklers.

2
Lose the smoke. For indoor use, smoke-free sparklers are your best choice. If you want to add some pizazz to a dessert, smokeless metal novelty sparklers, such as ice fountain candles, can easily do the trick. However, look for a label saying your sparklers are safe for indoor use before you light them inside, and don't touch them after they are finished burning until they have had sufficient time to cool.

Read the label. Never buy fireworks that don't have the regulation BS-7114 mark of approval, and always buy legal fireworks from an authorized, reputable source.

Tips & Warnings
Always keep sparklers of all kinds away from your eyes to prevent serious injury.
Remember that sparklers, though safe, do get very hot. Always use caution, just like you would with any other firework, and never give sparklers to children under the age of five.
Never use wooden sparklers inside or around highly flammable materials, especially since they drop more ash than metal ones.
