Summer movie blockbusters are famous for big stars, impressive effects and memorable action and suspense. If you've ever seen one based on a critic's recommendation and regretted it or if you've got strong opinions about what makes a film good or bad, write a review of your own to help others make their summer movie selections.

From Quick Guide: Online Entertainment
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read reviews of famous critics like Roger Ebert to become familiar with the style, tone and content of respected reviewers. Feel free to write in a way that reflects your personality. (See Resources)

  2. Step 2

Select a summer blockbuster and research it. If it's a sequel, for example, be sure to see the first movie so you're familiar with the characters and plot. Study the industry history of the actors, director and screenwriter so you can compare or reference their past work in your review.

  3. Step 3

Bring a small notepad when you see the movie to jot notes about the plot, actors, effects and direction.

  4. Step 4

Write while the movie is fresh in your mind. Decide if you liked or didn't like it, how it fits within the "summer blockbuster" mold and summarize the main reasons why. As you support your viewpoint and discuss the details, however, be sure you don't give away any key twists, secrets or any part of the ending.

  5. Step 5

Discuss the details that help shaped the film. Talk about the high and low points of the actors' performances. Mention touching or upbeat songs that set the mood of the movie. List reasons why the direction, score, lighting, costumes, sound and cinematography made the experience better or worse.

  6. Step 6

Add interest by including any trivia, goofs or tidbits you've read about the making of the movie.

Tips & Warnings
  • Aim for honesty in your review. Even if you know it's going to be the biggest hit of the summer, it's okay to say that you didn't like it, as long as you support your view with intelligent reasons.
