Wiffle ball was created by the Mullany family and the help of a friend who worked at the Colt Firearms factory. The factory made a gift set for Coty, the perfume company, that included small plastic balls. Mullany asked his friend for samples of the balls. The Mullany family discovered that the best wiffle ball pattern had eight oblong holes on the top and a solid bottom.

Things You'll Need:

  • Wiffle ball
  • Wiffle bat

  1. Step 1

Watch the newspaper sales advertisements. The Sunday paper has the most sports store adverts.

Learn about the type of equipment you need. A yellow, hollow, plastic bat is the original wiffle ball bat.

  4. Step 4

Count the oblong holes in a wiffle ball before you purchase it. The original wiffle ball has eight oblong holes in the top half and a solid bottom.

  5. Step 5

Inspect wiffle ball equipment before you purchase. Plastic equipment is prone to damage in shipping.

  6. Step 6

Anticipate the sales pitch of the salesperson at the store. Wiffle ball requires minimal equipment.

  7. Step 7

Purchase a bat, balls, bases and a rubber pitcher's marker and you will be ready to play in any empty lot.

Tips & Warnings
