Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who knows what you're going through. That's what Spinal Muscle Atrophy support groups are there for. They give you an outlet. You meet other people who are coping with SMA. Whether it's how to manage housework with a child who has SMA or the latest research on the disease, support groups offer answers to a plethora of issues.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get involved with Families of SMA. It's the largest private funder of research for Spinal Muscle Atrophy in the world.

  2. Step 2

Attend a Families of SMA annual conference. It's a chance for you to learn what's happening in SMA research and get a better understanding of the disease.

  3. Step 3

Meet people at the Families of SMA conference. It's one of the rare times you'll be surrounded by other families coping with Spinal Muscle Atrophy, too. Meet them and share your story. You may find some friends.

  4. Step 4

Find a local Families of SMA chapter. There are just over twenty chapters, but they're spread out pretty well through the country. Use your chapter to network with other families.

  5. Step 5

Join an online support group. Daily Strength and SMA Support Inc. are two web-based support groups. The members share their stories about Spinal Muscle Atrophy.

Tips & Warnings
