Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Ask friends or family if they're in need of a phone. Some families may want a used phone for their child.
Step2
Call area shelters and ask if they're in need of used cell phones. Many people benefit from the dial 911 feature, which doesn't require programming or a service plan.
Step3
Consider donating your cell phone to Cell Phones for Soldiers. This organization sells your cell and then uses the money to buy soldiers prepaid calling cards. Call (781) 588-2608 for additional information.
Step4
Contact the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence at (303) 839-1852 to donate your phone to a victim of domestic violence.
Step5
Check the American Cell Phone Drive website. Enter your zip code to obtain a list of organizations looking for cell phones. If there isn't a site near you, print off a prepaid shipping label and mail your cell to them for recycling.
Step6
Talk to your city council or the mayor about the possibility of holding a city-wide cell phone collection drive. Donate or sell the collected phones to an organization like SimplySellular.
