Twisting back loops are back layouts done with a twist. The moves are identical to the diving and gymnastics skills of the same name. Begin by training to perform the back layout on the trampoline before you attempt it while skydiving. Then get out and try the real thing.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Jump to get good air and do a backward somersault on a trampoline. Once you can land this move easily, begin work on the layout position.

  2. Step 2

Work on the layout position by throwing your arms up and back. Your head should follow and your arms should return to your side.

  3. Step 3

Keep your back arched and your legs straight. Master this skill before you add the twist. You can also improve your technique by practicing the back layout while skydiving before adding the twist.

  4. Step 4

Add the twisting motion by swiveling your hips and shoulders as you begin the layout. The harder you twist at the hip, the more rotations you'll do. Once you can complete a full twist with a successful landing, you can begin practicing the skill while skydiving.

Tips & Warnings
  • Maintain control during skydiving training by adjusting your body's position. Lift your head and arms back to create the layout. Add the hip and shoulder twist to rotate your body sideways as you perform the back layout.
  • Videotape your skydiving training so you can analyze your full body position and make the necessary corrections.
