How to Buy a Mouse Pad

While many of us search for computers with as many bells and whistles as we can muster, we may overlook the importance of buying a quality mouse pad to complete the package. But a poorly made mouse pad can cause unnecessary hand strain, interfere with the mouse's movement and constantly slip out of place.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Make sure the mouse pad you buy is compatible with your mouse. Some mouse pads are available that work well with an optical laser mouse, optical LED mouse or a roller-ball mouse.
Step2
Consider getting a mouse pad with a wrist support. Many styles are available with a gel wrist rest attached to aid natural hand movement.
Step3
Test a mouse pad for comfort before buying it. If it has a wrist support, make sure it's pliable and doesn't create awkward or strenuous hand movements.
Step4
Check the mouse pad's stability. Notice whether it stays in place when you move a mouse across it. Pay attention to whether the mouse easily glides across the surface and whether the manufacturer indicates that it has anti-static properties.
Step5
Alleviate concerns about bacteria growth on the surface of a mouse pad by choosing one with antimicrobial protection. These are available at some large office supply stores. This type of mouse pad may be especially useful if you share a computer with someone.
Step6
Create a customized mouse pad online. Several online services allow users to personalize mouse pads with favorite photos. Users typically upload their photos and then choose a mouse pad design from the photo service's stock formats to display their photos.
