The latest sensation in interactive video gaming is Rock Band. With drums and a microphone, in addition to the bass and electric guitar, Rock Band offers more choices than Guitar Hero, the game that got the sensation started. It's available for several video-gaming systems, including PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. These directions address the more affordable PlayStation 2.

From Quick Guide: Playstation 2 Gaming
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set up the drums, guitars and microphone in a manner in which you'll be able to see the television screen.

  2. Step 2

Insert the video-game disc into the PlayStation 2 console.

  3. Step 3

Press the power button, and wait for the game screen to come up on the TV monitor.

  4. Step 4

Follow the on-screen prompts to select the number of players, difficulty level, which instruments and which song your band would like to play.

  5. Step 5

Match the colored notes that are streaming down the screen to the colors of which instrument keys you are playing. It's basically a matching game from that point on. Timing is critical or the "note" will not count. Several mistakes can lead to being booed off stage.

  6. Step 6

Use your fingers on the guitars to play the color keys. This takes some coordination, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to find the keys with ease.

  7. Step 7

Play the drums by striking the correct color's pad or the kick pedal. The drums are played with real drumsticks to give the drummer a realistic experience.

  8. Step 8

Sing into the microphone. It is designed to detect phoneme, pitch and rhythm.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rock Band is designed for multiple users, however it can be played by one person on one instrument and/or the microphone.
  • Mastering the default songs will unlock additional songs.
  • Because of the demands on the fingers and eyes, Rock Band should be played in moderation to avoid injury or eye strain.
  • Don't forget to eat, shower and sleep. Rock Band is addictive and will likely take you out of your everyday routine.
