How to Find Toupee Alternatives

Finding toupee alternatives is easier than ever before. Until the last 15 years or so, men with substantial hair loss only had one answer. Now, with advances in skin treatments and science devoted to re-growing hair, men now have more potential solutions for hair replacement.

1. Consider a hair weave. Hair weaves are done by sewing a hair piece or toupee to a person's own hair. This is a more permanent alternative to a toupee, as it can be worn while sleeping or doing other activities where a regular toupee might not work. When your natural hair begins to re-grow, the weave has to be redone.
2. Invest in a hair system. A hair system is a modern version of the traditional toupee in that it attaches in a semi-permanent fashion and doesn't have to be removed at night or during strenuous activity, such as swimming. Hair systems attach flush to the scalp and cover existing hair.
3. Think about laser scalp treatment. Dermatologists have long known the benefits of laser treatments on a variety of skin conditions. Laser therapy is now being used on the scalp to essentially stimulate the skin cells to re-grow hair.
4. Research hair transplants. Hair transplants are done by surgically harvesting growing hair from the back of the patient's scalp. The harvested hair is then implanted into the areas where hair has stopped growing. This is usually at the top of the head where most male pattern baldness occurs. The transplanted hair will grow for a couple of weeks and then fall out. Two or three months later the hair follicles that remain will begin regular hair production in the area where they were transplanted.
