Since the 1970s, Redline has been one of the leaders in BMX and road bikes. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Redline is responsible for introducing tubular forks, which revolutionized the BMX biking industry. Redline has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when founder Terry Heller sold bike parts out of the back of his Ford station wagon.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Locate a Redline BMX dealer near you. Based in Washington, Redline has hundreds of dealers all over the United States, and you should be able to find a Redline retail outlet that is convenient. You may want to call ahead to find out about available stock on hand, so that you can compare the many Redline models available and buy the one that is right for your BMX needs.
Step2
Determine whether you're going to use your Redline BMX bike for racing or for freestyle before you buy it. Racing BMX bikes, such as those in Redline's Proline Series, tend to be stripped down, with no kickstands, reflectors, chain guards or fenders. Freestyle BMX bikes, such as Redline's Flight models, are designed with heavier frames and more safety features and also come with accessories such as feet posts that will allow you to perform stunts.
Step3
Take a test ride on your Redline BMX bike before you buy it. Unlike road bikes, the frames on BMX bikes are small enough that any adjustments made to fit your body are done through the seats and handlebars. Still, you should buy a BMX bike that feels solid, maneuverable and comfortable.
Step4
Decide which accessories you will need when you buy your Redline BMX bike. Safety equipment should include a helmet, knee and elbow pads and gloves. You should also consider a small repair kit, which contains a patch kit for your tires, a basic tool set and CO2 canisters to fill your tires with air.
Step5
Visit the Redline BMX website for more information about current Redline racing and freestyle models, dealer locations and even news about Redline BMX racing events (see Resources below). The site is also a convenient way to order accessories and replacement parts for your new BMX bike.

Tips & Warnings

  • With BMX biking, sneakers are actually preferred over traditional bike shoes, since the soles have more grip and flexibility during maneuvers.
