How to Attend Summer Band Camp

Students who attend a summer band camp are better prepared to show off their musical talents at school. In recent years, new music camps have started focusing on rock, pop and country music. At all band camps, students learn to play their instruments better individually and as part of a team with other musicians.

Instructions

1. Attend the Signature Music Camp at Ithaca College in New York (see Resources below). Music programs are divided between Youth, aged 12 to 14 and Teen, aged 15 to 17. Campers choose the track they are interested in from band, choir, vocal, piano or jazz.

2. Refine musical skills for the upcoming year of band at the Texas State Band Camps (see Resources below). Campers can choose Jazz Band, Salsa Band, Marching Band, Drum Major Clinic or a Drum Line and Percussion Camp at Texas State University. Campers can also take private lessons during the camp for an additional charge.

3. Attend the California Music Academy High School Music Camp this summer at the California State University, Fullerton (see Resources below). Campers learn music from CSUF professors in each program category. At the CSUF day camp, campers can choose from wind, band, symphony orchestra, jazz, strings, theory or flute programs. Campers can also work on MIDI, compositions and arranging or go to a keyboard class.

4. Rock out at one of the Power Chord Academy camps with 12 locations in the U.S. (see Resources below). Power Chord Academy campers play various styles of rock music and learn about the music business. Campers will play in a band, write songs, record songs, make a video, work on individual instruments and play in two concerts.

5. Go on tour for a week after the two-week Collective Sound summer music camp for budding musicians (see Resources below). Collective Sound campers focus on performance, writing and recording original music and playing individual instruments in a rock or pop band.
