How to Identify a Gold Digger on an Online Dating Site

  1. Step 1

When writing your profile be careful when describing how you spend your time. Traveling and spending money on luxuries is terrific, but don't brag about it too much or you'll attract gold diggers. Mention your travels but also let potential dates know you work hard for your money.

  2. Step 2

Be careful when using the adjective "generous" in your ad. It's a terrific quality, but may have online daters lining up to be the beneficiary of your generosity. Instead, say that you are romantic and like to surprise your date.

  3. Step 3

Let potential dates know you aren't looking to support anyone but yourself by saying something like, "I am secure and financially independent and look forward to meeting someone who is the same." This will let those looking for a free meal to keep looking.

  4. Step 4

Instead of listing your income range, leave that area blank and instead mention your level of education and write about your job in your essay. This way people will get an idea of what your financial situation is without knowing your exact income.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be proactive and look for potential dates who fit your desires and who sound financially independent.
  • When emailing your potential date never offer money and avoid talk of money. If the potential date asks for money or gifts, avoid them.
