Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Newspaper (use only black and white sections)
  • Damp cleaning cloths
  • Green window cleaner
  • Small kitchen sponge

Make a Green Window Cleaner Solution

  1. Step 1

Combine your ingredients together in a bowl.

  2. Step 2

Pour the solution into your spray bottle.

  3. Step 3

Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to give it a similar look as the store-bought cleaners.

  4. Step 4

Label your spray bottle and keep it away from children.

  5. Green Clean your Windows

  6. Step 1

Spread some newspaper under the window to protect your floors from any drips. Prep your windows for cleaning by dusting or brushing your window frames and windowsills.

  7. Step 2

Use a damp cleaning cloth to wipe off the worst of the dirt and grime.

  8. Step 3

Spray some of your green window cleaner on the window. Wet your sponge with the cleaning solution.

  9. Step 4

Start cleaning the window, starting at the top. Pay particular attention to the corners, where grime tends to accumulate the most.

  10. Step 5

Fold a couple of newspaper in half and scrunch them up. Use the crumbled newspaper to wipe off the window cleaner in circular motions. You may see streaks at first but these will disappear as you keep wiping away.

  11. Step 6

Dry the accumulated water on your sills with the damp cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • If cleaning with the vinegar-and-water solution leaves streaks on your window, keep in mind that this is as a result of the commercial cleaner that may previously been used to clean the window. These tend to leave a waxy residue, which vinegar alone cannot remove. In this case, just add a few drops of liquid soap.
  • Clean your windows on a cloudy or cool day. Cleaning on a relatively hot day will cause your cleaner to streak, because the sun will dry it up before you can wipe it off. If you must do it on a hot day, try to get it done in the morning.
